Year 1D’s Amazing Writing

 

Over the last few weeks the year 1 children have really enjoyed all of the amazing learning covered through the fantastic book ‘I Want my Hat Back’, written by Jon Klassen. The development of the main character across the narrative, simple setting and classic plot made this book a powerful stimulus for the children to understand characterisation and plot. The language of the text offered the children a good model for their own writing and the main dilemma presented a lot of meaningful drama opportunities for writing in role.

The children really enjoyed sharing their own ideas and opinions of what the other characters may be thinking or may have said. We spoke about all the different emotions the bear and other animals experienced throughout the book which we could relate to our own. This book also led us to being really creative when designing our own kind of hat and creating missing posters to find the rabbit.
