RSE
To facilitate the teaching of Relationships and Health Education (RHE), we use the ‘Life to the Full’ programme. This is a fully resourced scheme of work in RHE for Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and 2.
The ‘Life to the Full’ programme is based on the structure of ‘A Model Catholic RSE Curriculum’ by the Catholic Education Service. It is an entire platform of creative resources designed to engage, inform and inspire our pupils and school community. This includes interactive video content, story-based activities, employing a wide range of teaching tools, original worship music and an accompanying programme of classroom prayers.
Taught with a spiral approach to learning, in which pupils revisit the same topics at an age-appropriate stage through their school life, the programme includes teaching about personal health, physical and emotional wellbeing, strong emotions, private parts of the body, personal relationships, family structures, trusted adults, growing bodies, puberty, periods, life cycles, the dangers of social media, an understanding of the Common Good and living in the wider world. The programme is fully inclusive of all pupils and their families.
‘Life to the Full’ is taught following three themes:
- Created and Loved by God
- Created to Love Others
- Created to Live in Community.
The entire teaching is underpinned with a Christian faith understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God.
